New Skills and a Winner!

001 302The lull after the holidays is a great time to learn a new skill.  That is why we schedule lots of beginner level classes this time of year.  You can find the complete list by clicking the Class Schedule button on the Menu Bar.

All of our teachers have been teaching beginners for a long time and know how to get you started successfully even if you think you are not a stitcher!

Lee Monroe is teaching our Beginner Quilting class this week.  Some of you might know her from her website, May Chappell.  If not definitely click on that link.  You’re welcome!

We are excited to welcome Jennifer Edwards back.  She is another patient encourager.  She blogs about her art here and her knitting and crocheting here.  She will be teaching her popular Knit Blitz class at the end of January.  Details to follow!

Now on to the Giveaway winner.  First, thank you for your comments and advice on colors!  I’ll let you know when the new yarn arrives!!  I’ve decided to do two drawings, one for the Facebook responders and one you who left comments here.

Our Facebook winner is Annie.  Her comment, “I love Malabrigo’s 634 Oeste with Berroco’s 62110 Tangelo!”

Our blog comment winner is Laura H who wrote, “I’m intrigued with Berroco’s “Lunar Mix” – maybe with a yellow (like “Pollen” perhaps?) from Malabrigo. Gray and yellow… classic color combo. Fabulous giveaway – thank you!”

Congratulations, you two!  I’ll contact you as soon as the yarns come in!

Thanks to all for participating and helping me order the best colors!   We’ll do it again soon!

Happy Stitching,

Martha

It’s a hat! ( and a give-away!)

My first completed project on 2015 is the Corkscrew Hat.  I started it on December 30 and binge-watched Season 4 of Downton Abbey to get it finished.  That might be why my model, Blanche, has such a 1920’s air about her!

I used Malabrigo Worsted for the gray and winter white Ultra Alpaca from Berroco.  The two yarns together make a super-soft, warm hat perfect for my morning walk–so no excuses for me!  I am starting the companion mittens asap!

I am teaching this hat starting Thursday if you’d like to make one for yourself.

Now for the Give-away:  It’s time to order more Malabrigo and more Ultra Alpaca and I’d love your help.  Visit the Berroco and Malabrigo websites, choose your favorite color combo and leave a comment below or on our Facebook page by Monday, January 5 at 6 p.m.  You get to help me with my order and I don’t have to make all those decisions on my own!

We’ll do a random drawing from all the comments for a chance to win a skein of Malabrigo and a skein of Ultra Alpaca.

Enjoy the rest of this dreary weekend and don’t forget to nominate your favorite colors!

A Starry Night for January

As usual, you’ve got to see this one in “real life.”  Those tiny specks are non-scratchy silver metallic “stars” set against a rich background of rich royal purple and blue with dab of turquoise.  Love!!

The exclusive pattern is for a sweet sock which is one of my favorite things to knit.  The touch of sparkle would be fun, but I’m seeing this a gorgeous scarf, September Circle (I wear mine ALL the time) or shoulder cozy like the one Jandell made using this pattern.

Posting all those Ravelry links reminds me of my New Year’s resolution to update my Project page with photos of my completed projects!  If you’d like help with yours, come by the shop with your completed projects and I’d love to take some photos for you and help you get them on your page.

Have a wonderful day and come see us tomorrow from 10 am to 3 pm.  Sit and Stitch is from noon until closing.  Christmas fabric is on sale for a couple more days.

I’ve always heard that what you do on New Year’s, you’ll do all year long, so I’m planning to do a LOT of stitching.  Hope you’ll have time to stitch too!
