Memorial Day is often looked at as the beginning of summer, but we all know it’s more than that. Here is a link to the history behind our Memorial Day, including why we wear a poppy. Remember those VFW poppies?
In Australia and New Zealand, April 25 is ANZAC Day, similar to our Memorial Day.
The beautiful red poppies pictured come to us from the ANZAC celebration in Australia. You can read about the 5000 Poppy project two fiber artists started to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this event on WWI. Amazing!
On Saturday we’ll be open from 10 am-3 pm and we’ll be closed Monday, May 25th.
Hope you’ll be able to join us in a little R&R. I plan to do some gardening and spend a lot of time in my sewing room. I’m making a skirt from this new Liesl and Co pattern and work on a cute, cute notions bag. My supplies are pictured below.
I’ll report back next week. Until then, hope this weekend gives you time to make lots of stitches!
